Chevy’s venerable sedan gets a modern 3.6-liter V6 that improves horsepower and fuel economy. But that’s just not enough to bring this old design fully up-to-date.

  1. I actually like the way this car corners, and this is coming from a guy who used to push his civic coupe to the limits. Body lean is no big deal because the car is so ffing predictable, and its an impala for Pete's sake. I still like to play hard, but I want it to be comfy 95% of the time. If it is a big deal, just throw a bigger sway bar in there or go ham on the whole works. This car is such a bargain. I know its not trendy but I can't figure out why people rag on it. I love the interior. I think everything looks and works better than most comparable models, though I wish they used higher quality plastic on the lower part of the dash.

The big gripe I have with this car is something they didn't even cover and that's interior storage. There is plenty of room inside. Its comfy. Beyond the seats its just not fully utilized imo, at least in my trim. The manual features work better than electronic versions in most vehicles on the impalas I've seen, so completely disregard any snarky people there if that's your thing. PS, that engine noise…..This engine sounds friggin awesome. You will love the sound the 3.6 makes on acceleration, and appreciate the quiet cruising.

This car isn't for everyone obviously, but its definitely something you should test drive. I was so ready to hate it, and its just a wonderful car in a simplistic way. I've seen it astonish Japanese buyers, maybe not so much if you are coming from a beloved European automobile.

  2. I own a 2013 LTZ and it growels, is fun to drive and HELLO its and Impala not a Beamer. This guy and Consumers Reports Mag obviously do not like Chevy Impalas. They are kind of utilitarian but not modest and affordable. Mine has plenty of power and handles just fine, and yes it does have big comfy seats just like the jackwagon said.

  3. What is he talking about I have a 2010 impala LT 3.5 loaded never had an issues I get 30 on highway and about 23 in city cheap to maintain and insure but I hate that slow 4 speed automatic always downshift I guess to max fuel economy lol

  4. It's not that bad. I don't like my 2012 as much as I do my 2014 I had, but the 2012 is solid. It's powerful, and comfortable, and very reliable. And it has an angular, dignified sort of appearance; one you recognize from miles away, and one that seems confidently settled with itself. I like the way its good braking and old style hydraulic steering drive. And its excellent ride is COMFORTABLE; like luxury-nameplate comfortable.

I totally understand that the new generation is technically better. And I totally plan to get back into one someday, once my current loans are paid off. But I don't live in a critic's world, where things like a telescoping steering wheel or a power seat recliner make or break a car choice for me. I have a well-maintained, spacious, confident car that's only five years old, and is affordable on gas for somewhere around $9,000. Actually, 4K after my last trade-in… I'm good with the 2012-2013 Impala.

  5. I just got a 2015 LTZ and it is awesome! Loaded w BOSE stereo and fast!!! For the price I paid w only 50k, it is a great vehicle! Rides great and great MPG's. Mine not so much because I love to feel the 300hp!

  6. This guy said it's small on the inside then immediately says it's big and accommodating like a couch? Where'd They find this guy?

  7. This guy is an idiot! The throaty growl from the V6 engine, with 0-60 in just under 5 seconds, is one of the best features! Who is this clown?

  8. I just sold a 99 Jeep Cherokee and got a 08 Impala LTZ. What an upgrade! The Impala rides and steers so smooth compared to what I was used to. It has a nice sound system, and I find the climate control easy to use. I love the heated leather seats, and my drivers seat back is powered. The seats don't seem very bolstered, but I can tell that I'm going to love driving long trips in this car. The back seat is comfortable and there is plenty of room. It's not hard to see why these are probably the most common car in my area. I think it's a good looking car too.

  9. I've driven 8 different impalas and I would never but one . The transmissions are junk, the traction controll causes problems.Theres no room to si behind the drive even for a child. It's not a family car but it does ride nice and accelerates pretty quick. Automatic/Manual buttons are on the steering wheel behind the cruise control buttons. Not a good set up.

  10. I agree that the backseat isn't very big for a car this size but that's where my agreement stops. I think the car drives great and has plenty of power. I actually think the cars handling is pretty darn good. This guy is way off base.

  11. Compared to what in its price range? This guy is nuts I love my LTZ. The 3.6 is a beast and has no problem putting the power down. Can't speak for the non LTZ model but mine handles very nicely. As far as I'm concerned the LTZ is a sports sedan on a budget. And as far as cabin space goes I pick this car over my wife's Buick Lacrosse any day of the week. I'm 6'2 and 260lbs. I'm very comfortable in this car.

  12. I have a 2013 Chevy Impala LTZ. It has been a dang good car. Only needed gas and me driving it.

  13. The impala is a great car! Yes I agree the interior is like sitting on a old couch and the handling suks but what you get v value wise is something else!

  14. he suggest sticking with a Malibu?lol malibus are the worst cars ever lol.i never trust these dumb reviews.these reviewers don't even know how to change a tire

  15. This guy on drugs or something.
I own a 2012 Impala LT and there is lots of room in it, both me and my boyfriend weigh more than 200 and we sit comfortably.

  16. This guy is nuts,we have a 2012 Impala ltz,we love it and my wife loves"getting on the expressway"! Rides nice and handles great!

  17. I have an 09 Impala ls and it's amazingly indestructible I was in an accident where a mustang hit me in the front right fender and very little damage was done to my car but the mustang had it's front bumper eating the windshield. I've also outran a lot of vehicles in this car and it handles great this guy does not know what he's talking about this car is awesome. As long as u keep up w the maintenance it'll last a long time

  19. This car sux! I have a 2013 chevy impala. This past year nothing but problems. Biggest problem is actuators going out constantly. Has cost me so much money trying to keep this car up and running. It is also a gas guzzler. I agree with this guy when he says stick to a malibu. My previous car before this was a malibu and never any issues. My niece has it now and it still runs good. I am so ready to give up the impala and get a new car.

  20. I just bought 2012 , 3.6 VVT (300H.P.) Chevy Impala LT . I've drove cars from 80's , 90's and this car rides like a dream and was worth every penny I saved for it 😀

  21. I would absolutely love to slap this guy in the face he's totally wrong always dogging Chevrolet, it's a great car take it from me it's totally reliable

  22. Dude is a joke. Just got a 2012 Impala for $5400 and I'm in love with it. Rides very smooth, handles like a dream, and gets up and goes very nicely!
