  1. "If we could start the series with Simon as the main character…"  Haha, I felt very similarly!  I stopped after the third book, so I don't know if Clary gets any better.  I am going to give The Infernal Devices a try instead of continuing The Mortal Instruments.

  2. my biggest problem with the chapter character style in Allegiant was that I felt that there was no difference really between the characters, they were too similar, no difference really at all in the way they think so came off as one person. if a person is going to write this way, the characters need to come across as separate. was pretty disappointed in this for a final and not because of what happens that caused people to freak out

monument 14 was so predictable :/ gave the second a shot, thought it was worse then the first.

hmmm I sound like a real downer :p I did just finish The Martian and really enjoyed that 🙂

Clary doenst get less childish, and you are not the only person who gets annoyed at her :p

  3. I'm reading Allegiant now and I actually really do like the dual narrative but I agree with you about the slow bits, I set it aside after 150 pages and want to finish so it is done but don't really feel a need to pick it up 🙁 I spoiled myself for the end when I wasn't going to read Allegiant but I think I like knowing in advance better.  As for Mortal instruments I do like Clary but I can see how some of her decisions could make you wana shake her lol.  I do think you might have trouble getting through COFA though cuz I absolutely loved the original trilogy but thought the 4th book was quite bland and many characters 9especially Jace) were really bugging me but if you can get through that one supposedly COLS is better (I have yet to read that one).  Oh and if you love Magnus (cuz who wouldn't? :)) then you should read the Bane Chronicles! They are novellas that are available as ebooks or the bindup is coming out in November 🙂

  4. I really enjoy your videos and especially your thorough reviews. 🙂 Love your shirt by the way…

  5. I pretty sure that Cassandra Clare has written a Bane series with Magnus as the protagonist because he's so old x

  6. Oh God, I wish I had the time to read as much as you do but these freaking exams don't leave me a moment to breathe. Anyway, I read an excerpt from Deathless a few days ago and I just can't wait to finally buy it, I can already feel it's going to be one of my favourite books. The atmosphere of that book is so amazing, I just really can't wait to put my hands on it. 🙂

  7. Sarah's life advice: Don't be whiny and weak. 🙂
Does anyone write stand-alone novels any longer? Or have series taken over the world like a plague?

  8. I tried to participate in Clare-a-thon and read City of Lost Souls, was sooo excited for this book to be released in Russian and come to Ukraine. Started reading it (after a year long break) and oh my guuuuuuuh, almost everyone annoy me. Clary is at her annoying best.. I forgot that she can be like this.:( I've read like 100+ pages and stopped. So disappointed. On my opinion, nothing improved – not the plot, not the writing style (but maybe it's translation's fault…), not characters. I just want to yell and punch them. And, tbh, it's not what I need at the moment.
Ooh, I want to read How I Live Now. It's sitting on my shelf since July 2013. And it's tiny…

Ha, about "adding flesh to bones", it's actually funny. Because in many cartoons from my childhood Koschei is pictured as walking skeleton.:D Not in all of them, but still. When you've said it, it made me smile. Like a pun.:)
So many interesting books. I may read Fire&Flood this month, but I'm not sure…

  10. I agree a lot about Clary, she is extremely childish and selfish. I thought she got a little bit better in CoFA and CoLS but not much. TIF we're MUCH better and Tessa is no where near as whiny as Clary.

  11. Koschei is actually involved in a several Russian stories. He's the main antagonist and he's largely famous as such in Russian literature, mostly in fairytales for children 🙂

  12. I have subscribed to a lot of book tubers and I have finally found a person that has my taste in books!!!! :)))

  13. I agree with your opinion on "the thing" in Allegiant. I wish you would have enjoyed it more. Thanks for your opinion.

  14. It would make sense that "Love Letters from the Dead" is written like poetry, since the writer herself has a MFA from Iowa Writer's Workshop in poetry. To be perfectly honest, after City of Glass the series goes downhill. Clary does not get better as a character. If you like the world, and if you haven't read it yet, I would suggest The Infernal Devices. The characters are excellent in that series.

  15. You have summed up my feelings for Allegiant perfectly! As a conclusion to an over aching story, Allegiant is good! I don't mind the "spoiler". I liked it, even if I was initially shocked. As a singular book, though, Allegiant was weak. I also was surprised that Four's point of view wasn't as compelling as I felt it should be.

Also, people seem to really like Deathless. I need to read it asap. Catherynne's writing is gorgeous (I LOVE her fairyland series).

Great wrap up, overall! New subscriber.

  16. I'm going to ask my friend who is currently reading Clockwork Princess if she likes TMI or TID better.

  17. comment might contain Allegiant spoilers (if you're able to figure out what I mean that is)

Ugh I hated the dual point of view in Allegiant! Four is definitely annoying and I just wanted to hit him all the time, when before I only felt that way about Tris. I believe this side of him must've always been there but since in the previews books we were seeing him from Tris's eyes we were only able to see what she saw in him, and that's very different than being inside someone's head. I still thought that both voices were very similar and I often got confused as to who was doing the talking, and from what I've seen that's been a major complaint from people.
Honestly what annoyed me most of all is that since the first moment I saw the book had two points of view I could totally figure out how the story was going to end, so I spent the whole book waiting to see how it was going to happen more than what was going to happen. I pretty much spoiled myself, or maybe I could say that Veronica spoiled her own book to me by choosing to write it that way. Who knows, really? I do agree with you though, I'm glad that it happened, I just wish I hadn't known all along.
    Yay for long comments?

  18. Clary gets worse and I hate her so much as well. But maybe that's just me because I also hate the series and everyone in it, even Magnus after book 4. (Yes, I read them. You have to know your enemy…)
I'm currently reading Deathless and I'm glad I'm not the only one who is really weirded out. I don't know what's happening. I'm also put off by sentences like "her datives were like tables set for feasting"… whaaaat?

  19. I think if Isabelle were the main character of City Of Bones it would be really awesome!

  20. I actually quite liked allegiant, obviously not as much as the first two but yannoe. 🙂 the ending 🙁

  21. Clary becomes more bad-ass and nicer, more respectful too and sharing in the next two books.

  22. i have the totally SAME opinion about allegiant. seriously. this mixed lovehate feeling :p

  23. I was wondering what are your thoughts on starting the trilogy from scratch having read Allegiant? Mockingjay has made me rather hesitant because I really liked reading The Hunger Games and Catching Fire but wasn't a fan of the final book so I'm not sure about whether I should pick up the Divergent trilogy or not.

  24. I could not even finish City Of Bones because I did not like and could not identify with Clary at all. I just did not care about her or what happened to her.

  25. I'm with you, Clary drives me up the wall, she's just so moany and whiney. Buck up kid and stop being such a teenager. I'm with you, I wish for more Magnus stuff, Have you tried The Bane Chronicles?

  26. I'm with you on the clary thing but its easier to stomach as an audiobook but city of fallen angels and lost souls are better but i think thats because sebastian is a much bigger character and it makes up for clary

  27. I agree with you so much about Clary! She really puts you off while reading those books, you are right, she is really childish and ungrateful and the books would be so much better if some of the other characters would be telling the story! I'm afraid that I can't tell you that she gets better in the other books, but the world and the story, and everything that is not Clary is amazing!
Anyway, as I told you, thanks for the recommendation of Love Letters to the Dead, I'm more than half way through already and the writing style is brilliant! Is very poetic, and I also love all the music and history involved.
    Cool wrap up 🙂

  28. i completely agree clary is a very annoying main character and i enjoyed the spin off series a lot more (the infernal devices) as the main character is a lot more interesting than clary

  29. I felt the same way about Deathless! It was my first Valente's book and I got somewhat confused reading it:)
-As far as I know, Maria Morevna is an actual folktale character. She is a warrior princess that goes to war but before she leaves she gets her husband, Alexei, to promise her that he won't, under any circumstances, open her closet. Alexei agrees but eventually disobeys and by doing so, accidentally releases Koschei the wizard who was held imprisoned by Maria inside her closet. Instantly, Morevna becomes Koschei's captive in turn and Alexei travels to his domain to get his wife back. In the same story prince Alexei has also 3 sisters who got married to 'bird husbands' and help him throughout the story, pretty much such as Maria Morevna's sisters do in Deathless. At least that was the version of the story I've read, cause folk tales come out in lots of different versions.
    – I guess Valente intended Deathless a some sort of a modern russian tale. Heroes in russian folktales are usually named Ivan and Vasilisa is a common heroine name, as in the classic tale of 'Vasilisa the beautiful'. Baba Yaga and Koschei act mostly as the evil witch and wizard. Deathless includes all those russian tale motives and facts and aren't really explained as they are also not explained in the original tales, things just happen and the hero makes a mistake because otherwise there wouldn't be a story…that's what I felt in the end. If someone hasn't read any russian fairytales  all those things may strike strange…although, that's not the case, cause I've read some classic russian tales before Deathless and couldn't get many of the things that were happening.
-Loved Valente's style though and I'm definitely going to try some of her other books. (Did you know that there's gonna be a sequel to Deathless too?)
Sorry for the looong post…Love your reviews and videos and I've found lots of new books through your channel! Cheers!:)
