Writing is a tool we use to 'add' a voice to our thoughts. Seeing words on paper, or a computer screen, adds authenticity and clarification to our thoughts.
Here are four reasons why we write:
1. To inform: here is how I feel about ____;
2. To teach, I can help you___;
3. To learn, how do I do____,
4. To record, what happened on ____;
Every thing you write is a message, whether to yourself or to the world. You are a unique, one of a kind being, that, so is your message.
We may begin by just doing a simple diary, mean for no ones eyes but ours. We should remember though that these thoughts can be of great value to our families when we are long gone. They help others understand who we were and why we lived our lives the way we did.
You have to learn to be transparent and honest in writing, whether for a diary, an article, a poem, or … At first you may find there is some hesitation and fear in doing so. I mean what if someone actually reads this one day! With a little practice these hits will be overcome.
I have a small diary on my computer, which I do not post in often enough. I have no problem if family and friends know what the thoughts in there say about my life. Hmmm, maybe I was a master spy, sent here to observe whatever the human race is learning any lessons from its' past!
I only wish this note taking had been begun earlier in my life but, sadly, it did not. Find a quiet place, sit, stand, lay down (what ever works for you) and "Start Now" !.
Starting back during my high school days, the desire to write has always been there even though that desire was never really 'succumbed to'. I was once assigned to write something on aspirin, of all things. The teacher assigned subjects to very one. I kept that paper for many years because it was something that made me feel an accomplishment like no other – wish I still had it. I think my grade was a B or B +.
I am not a writer, in the classic sense, but I do write. A few odd things have been published here and there – see: expert author.
I'm never sure why I write what I do. Sure, it's fascinating to know that when something is posted on a website it's there for the whole world to see and may be there for all time.
The other day, while watching a science fiction movie, 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'. some thoughts came to mind that I still need to put into words. By the way this is one of my favorite movies of all time.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, at any time, in any place. We just need to be open to it.
There is always the hope that something you write will prove entertaining, helpful or important to someone but do not be disappointed if it does not. If you have a need to put words down on paper, or computer. that is all the encouragement you need. or may get – so get use to it!
If we adjust our thinking a bit we realize writing is within all of us.
