  1. I read Hotel Iris last year. It is definitely weird. I have also read Yoko Ogawa's short story collection REVENGE. I can't really form a complete opinion of her writing because I need more "experience" reading her stuff. I own her other two books 'Diving Pool' and 'The Housekeeper and the Professor' I'll let you know if you should pick them up 😉

  2. Thanks for the new video, Katie! I'd be curious to hear what your thoughts are on Iris Hotel later on after you've had more time to think about it, because it does seem quite odd. Anyway, looking forward to your next video, and best of luck with your last semester!

  3. Wow, Through the Woods is beautiful! Not sure why I haven't added it to my list yet, but it definitely looks like the kind of style I like in graphic novels.

  4. Did you listen to The Couple Next Door? I've tried twice to read that book and never made it past the first 30 pages…I would love to know what you thought of it in the future 🙂 Love your videos, they are so fresh! It's nice seeing someone talk about books that are not everywhere on youtube!

  5. I clicked so fast when I saw Ranma in the thumbnail because I love that series! I first read it years and years ago but I still have at least the first 10 books in my collection . Glad to hear you still like it on the re-read!
On the Iris Hotel, I think I'll leave that off my own TBR. It reminds me of In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami in the whole "kind of horrifying, oh god why" kind of plot. I read that one last year and I still can't really grasp some of what I read in it.

  6. speaking of comics, there is some that I would like to recommend, like The Walking Dead (although, I think it would be kinda an easy recommendation) Outcast, Sweet Tooth, The Wicked + The Divine and Nailbiter

  7. This is also my last semester in grad school, and it's one of the scariest things ever. Also, Through the Woods is a graphic novel I've been eyeing for some time now. I may just have to finally give it a shot.

  8. Check out " Harrow County", " Saga", the manga series " Pluto", and " Deadly Class". I think You'll enjoy them.

  9. awesome review! I love anime so I'll be checking the show version of that lol. I want to find Through the woods. It gives me Nimona vibes.

  10. Yoko Ogawa must be a big deal considering how large her name is in relation to the tiny title. I need to pick up Through the Woods – her story about the man killing his brother had made the rounds last year on imgur and it was just the right sort of creepy.

  11. Ranma 1/2 was such a great part of my childhood. Although in my case, I use to watch it every Saturday and Sunday. I'm so happy to see more people on Booktube talking about manga. Ranma 1/2 ❤

  12. I had a book about sexually diviant women in history on my coffee table. My mum came to visit and I found her very much engaged in my book ?

  13. Do you ever experience difficulty meeting/dating men given the fact that you like weird, creepy, fucked up things? Cause I am the exact same way and whenever I tell men I am dating my interests, they pretty much assume I'm a closeted serial killer. Idk just wondering if I'm not alone ?

  14. So excited for your review on Big Little Lies! I just finished it & would love to hear your thoughts & opinions 🙂

  15. You might check out Revenge, which is Yoko Ogawa's collection of connected short stories. Don't read The Housekeeper and the Professor, it is very sentimental and slow, nothing like her other stuff.

I read a bunch of volumes of Ranma 1/2 when I was in middle school. I remember the library copies had all of the boobs blacked out (boo censorship!), but it did feel very scandalous to read, nonetheless.

  16. Katie, have you read Fates and Furies? It's pretty weird in a good way and I think you'd like it 🙂
