Shadow Warrior is a first-person shooter computer game developed by 3D Realms and released on May 13, 1997 by GT Interactive. Shadow Warrior was developed using Ken Silverman’s Build engine and improved on 3D Realms’ previous Build engine game, Duke Nukem 3D. Mark Adams ported Shadow Warrior to Mac OS in August 1997.

The game’s improvements included introduction of true room-over-room situations, the use of voxels instead of sprites for weapons and usable inventory items, transparent water, climbable ladders, and assorted vehicles to drive (some armed with weapons). Although ultra-violent, the game emphasized tongue-in-cheek humor and contained some sexual themes (although less blatantly than in Duke Nukem 3D). A combination of DN3D and SW was published by GT Interactive in March 1998, titled East Meets West.

On April 1, 2005 3D Realms released the source code for Shadow Warrior under the GPL, which resulted in the first source port a day later on April 2, 2005.

  1. This game was amazing. Disappointed they never ported it like dnf 3d. They should've kept lo wang the same in the redux edition lol

  2. Glad people back then are just as annoying about the culture appreciation as they are now.

  3. Hi i just downloaded the game on steam, and i’ll admit, i’m incredibly new to pc gaming. Is there anything i can do to make the game or dosbox run better?

  4. Got that shit for free with tyrian 2000 gotta say the control's are kinda hard to deal with for someone like me but this and the remake had me interested. You sold me on the gog site as a whole and now my collection will be growing with some good games

  5. Tbh this game is always thrown in the back compared to Wolfenstein or doom / duke , like these game over shadow this game

  6. So if you say racist things with a smirk and a wink it's okay? People called this game racist because it was, you just don't see it because you're white and don't have to think about it sonny-jim.

  7. Why every review missing out the nuke of the rocket launcher…. It's one of the most iconic weapon's ever in videogames. Disappointed!

  8. I know this video is pretty old, but while playing this, on the first stage there are anime posters on a pillar, and they are actual anime shows. One of them is a poster for the anime slayers (though it's terribly pixelated, but if you can read katakana it literally has the title of the show on it). Copyright must have been lax as hell.

I wonder if those posters are still in the redux version.

  9. Speaking as someone who finished it in highest difficult:
About the items: the caltrops were intended to make the enemy make sound when stepping on it, failing their ambushes (somewhere out there is an interview with Lo Wang himself where he speaks about it). But the game got such a fast speed that you end up doing it with rockets.
The gas bomb is only second to the shadow bomb in terms of use as a secondary weapon: the gas bomb causes small damage in area for a good while, being the ULTIMATE WEAPON agains those pesky bees/flies/mosquito-demons. Even better than a Nuke, which killed more with the aftermath gases – which were exactly like three gas bombs.
Many tend to use less the melee punches or sword, but they are still powerful and usable in many endgame situations. Most enemies in advanced encounters can kill you quickly, but so do you.
There is a legend that the shadow bomb makes your punches stronger, but until now I only saw some red particles added…
