  2. I bought this game a while ago on steam and immediately returned it as soon as I got into combat – I tried it about 1/2 an hour. Everything about the combat is absolutely terrible. I have always been a huge fan of PST and Baldur's gate and Pillars, and this game is not at all like any of them, for better or for worse. The character stats and inventory system was counter intuitive for me. For someone who has played every major Computer RPG for the last 20 years I was blown away with how poor these systems worked in Tides. The interface is so drab as well…

    I didn't realize something about Tides until I came to this video….they released it on console. That pretty much explains everything. Go get PST Enhanced Edition and skip this game.

  3. The main problem I have with this game is the combat system. Planescape Torments combat was balls but at least there it was quick. The combat in Tides drags on for fucking ever.

  4. Damn I love this game. I seriously can't remember the last time a game got me so obsessed, I literally played through this game in two insane sittings. Needless to say that I didn't sleep much. The game is absolutely beautiful, and every single side story had at least some form of emotional impact. There wasn't a moment I wasn't fully connected to this bizarre world of forgotten technology and ancient secrets. This is a thinking man's game, so if philosophy isn't your thing, stay away.

  5. I have played the game for three hours. Good story, bad combat. I like reading books so I like Torment Tides of Numenara. If you don't like to read a lot, go away running.

  7. i dont like the dialog-interface, that's what keeps me away. also i remember combat in pst, that was way too difficult and complicated.

  8. the combat sucks because you cant recharge action points so you do no damage and turn based just sucks for this game

  10. I really like the art style for this game. Perhaps more so than any other Baldur's Gate esque title on next gen console.

  13. can you or anyone answer if any of these shortcomings have been fixed/alleviated since launch? I know there have been a few patches.

  14. I wish they had made Diablo with one of the big CRPG engines, the backgrounds, character sprites, etc are gorgeous and miles above the anything Diablo 3 had to offer.
    I wonder if it is because these engines can't handle a few dozen moving & attacking enemies all at once?

  15. Fortunately, my first impression with this title was the fully patched/tightened up PS4 version about three months after launch – $20 for a 'Day One Edition' physical copy on Amazon! Additionally, I wasn't a crowdfunding backer and hadn't played Planescape, so I didn't have any skin in the game in terms of expectations.

    All said, Torment: ToN has got to be one of the most memorable RPGs I've ever played in my life. The writing is so rich and engaging; the setting and aesthetic so evocative; it's really a singular experience. In this day and age of Fierce, Frentic, Flashy, Fetchy action RPGs, I find ToN's slow-burn pacing almost meditative to play. It's like the videogame equivalent of curling up on the couch with some hot tea and wiling away the hours reading your favorite book without a care in the world.

  17. I was disappointed that every play style seems to lead to the same results. It doesn't really matter if you solve a problem peacefully or use violence since the end-result is the same. Considering how deep the game strives to be, it's a very linear game

  20. I found the day one edition complete with the OST at gamestop for 14euros and I've played 5+ hours today alone and I can't stop. It feels like pen&paper roleplaying and I'm loving it – a true rpg :3

  22. I don't know how but I randomly found the first day edition of this game for £7 at a games store, came with all the day one edition items (a map, the soundtrack, traveler's guie and an in game Mindforged synthsteel plating) so thought I'd check out a review before giving it a go.

  23. This is honestly one of the best games I've ever played and definitely one of my top favorite games, but your mileage may vary. I think the best way to explain it is it's a very niche product/work of art for an already rather niche genre. Overall the general atmosphere, storytelling, lore even sound design imo made it one of the most captivating experiences ever, but opinion has been divided. It's a sort of immersing of yourself in a world in the purest sense and frankly has more replay value than Planescape but I think the key is to dissociate T:ToN from P:T. They're not the same one, so don't expect that, but I honestly can't tell if I liked this game better. Most of APC's criticisms are on point though. I've found a couple bugs where text just won't display for example, but I would recommend at full price too if you're into a very specific thing. I can imagine some people aren't or maybe expect something different, but this is less a game to play and thus feels without gameplay and is instead more like an intricate world to explore. You also will find tons of new content each time you play and it has high replay value. Tl;dr ACG summed it up best as "cerebral" not a whole lot of gameplay and rough in spots but one of the most memorable and captivating games I've played in years.

  24. As someone who is a fan of this setting (I liberally steal from it for my own D&D games) and who rates planescape:torment as my number 1 game of all time … I don’t feel this is a true (or at least successful) spiritual successor. 6/10 where I give PS:T 10/10.

  25. I have a lot to say about Torment, and it's hard for me to really recommend it to anyone. But If only the combat was completely overhauled I would be happy. I actually hope to see another game like this in the future. And oh… less descriptions
